In the ancient times, animals played a great role in aiding us humans in our daily living. They provide us the strength we need to do the heavy stuff. They give us warmth on cold weather, have been providing us the proteins we need and so many more. Among the animals that helped us a lot, horses are very common. Before, horses were our primary source of transport. But today, with the uproar of technology very few find their usefulness. These few people who seemingly are passionate about horses made a sport and shows so people will never forget the animals’ capability. And the most popular is the horse show.
What pops in your mind when you hear the word horse show? Well for me, I immediately thought that it'll be just horses parading along a track. Little did I know it is so much more than that.
Last April 2nd, a horse show was held at Damilag, Manolo Fortich as part of the BanogBanog Festival and Charter celebration. Witnessing the show definitely changed my idealism of what a horse show is. For one, horses are not just paraded along a track. They race along a track! Also, there were obstacles put up to showcase their capabilities and agility. That was quite a very different expectation versus reality for me huh?
I only rode a horse once in my lifetime. That was December last year. For a first timer, it was a horrifying yet fun experience. Note that the horse I rode on to was only walking downhill and on a straight path that time. Now, to only see them horsemen ride their horses got me in awe at the control they have over their horses. How they lead the horses on every obstacle at such span of time is just so unbelievable.
To make the show a whole lot more festive, horsemen from all over Philippines were invited to join. There were horsemen from Bohol, Davao, Valencia and from more far places. And after two days under the scorching heat competing, on April 3rd, winners were awarded. But winners or not, everybody deserves to rejoice for a job well done in raising such disciplined and healthy horses.
Witnessing this kind of event opened new doors of interest for me. Also, it has made me realize that sports don't just depend on balls, rackets, or equipment in general. It could also be on animal's agility, discipline, and the relationship it has on the person riding it. All in all, I can say that the horse show is not just a show because it is so much more than that. For next year's BanogBanog and Charter celebration, I hope that you come and join us witness the show. See you!
