Town- if we look the meaning of this word in a dictionary, it would commonly be defined as a human settlement. A place larger than villages but smaller than cities. The definition itself sounded dull. But when you put the word home before it, it becomes so much more.
Hometown, that is what I call Manolo Fortich. Like a home, it won’t be complete without a family. A family of families uniting to create such wonderful Manolo Fortich. It took years to make this town flourish and shine through the rest of the world. And with hard work, this year we celebrate its 102nd Charter Celebration.
Friday, March 15 the celebration has just begun. Athletes and barangay officials from all over the town gathered early morning in front of the Municipal Hall to parade their way to the Municipal Gym to signal the townsmen of yet another year of success. The people paused from their typical Friday schedules as drum began to roll and the whole band danced along the beat. Students peeked through the school gates to look as well as those in their households. The scorching heat seems to have not been felt by anyone. As the parade reached the gymnasium, everyone went in and the program began.
The celebration started off with the municipal Olympics as our loving Mayor Clive Quińo promotes physical activities to the youth to keep them from engaging to addictive drugs. Hence, later of the first day of celebration, the Municipal Olympics officially opened. And just right after the program, the basketball game began with Agusan Canyon and Lunocan and the heat is on!
Besides the official opening of the municipal Olympics, yet another family is announced to reside in our town. They fly through the air and they are known as our country’s national bird. Yes, you read it right. Manolo Fortich is now one of the homes of the Philippine Eagle. To welcome these new residents, this year our Charter Day celebration will be made festive as Banog-Banog Festival comes to our town! What many blessings have come to our Manolo Fortich.
The Charter Day celebration is just beginning, but the town is already shaken with all the activities, banderitascolouring the roads, carnival enticing the kids, and families making memories. This new chapter of my hometown is going to be wonderful if you come along our journey and be part of our family. Come along because Manolo Fortich is not just my hometown, it is everybody’s. Hali na! Magduyogkita!
